We'll Take Manhattan

If you watched 'We'll Take Manhattan' last week, you are probably feeling the same way I am. The BBC drama told the story of Jean Shrimpton and David Bailey breaking all the rules as they worked on a photo shoot for Vogue. It was this shoot that established them as icons for the rest of the 60s.
My problem is that now all I want to wear are mini dresses and skirts, with flat shoes, headscarves amd sunglasses! If you are feeling the same way, don't worry because we have a great little Goat dress in store which perfectly captures the 60s vibe, but is still in keeping with the new Spring trends!

Lea Michele steals the show during the SAG Awards...

Generally speaking, she’s one of the more reserved young stars on the red carpet, But Lea Michele (Yes, this is the same Gleeky Gal from hit US show, Glee) pulled out all the stops for Yesterday’s Screen Actor's Guild Awards.

The 25-year-old stole looked stunning in a gorgeous Grecian-style Versace gown.
The one-shoulder number features a fitted corset, with the long loose skirt flowing gracefully down from her hips.
Lea teamed her gorgeous gown with staple silver heels, and a fabulous silver jewellery.

What a stunner!

Neon!

Images courtesy of EmmaLouiseLayla

It seems to be that the classic satchel is back once again in a rainbow of colours fit for SS12. With a colour, shade and size for every occasion, it really is worth investing in one of these quirky pieces to compliment the upcoming trends. These already being snatched up by celebrities as a fun alternative to the usual totes.

My favourite are definitely from the Cambridge Satchel Company. This homegrown British brand hand make each individual bag and even offer your own embossing on the front to make it that little more personal. I love these daring neon versions, definitely fit for the colour palette of this season. I am very excited to receive mine in the post very shortly, however I have kept it simple and opted for a tan one!

MiH Jeans...Dream Jeans

MiH is one of my favourite brands in the store at the moment for casual wear and the release of their new look book enthuses me to get my sandals and wide brimmed hat out of storage and onto my person!

We've just received their Spring Summer collection and I want every piece of it, from the trusty Paris jeans to the Oversized shirt in an Italian Blue heavy weight cotton.

Images courtesy of MiH S.S 12 lookbook

If you haven't heard about MiH Jeans - where have you been? Tony O'Gorman launched London-based MiH Jeans with one aim - to create the best-fitting jeans around. Founded in the 1960's, the cult denim label was a favourite of style icons Jane Birkin and Farrah Fawcett.

Now under the creative control of goddaughter uber-cool Chloe, MiH's designs have been revitalised with an on-trend retro-chic vibe.

Have a wee look at the behind-the-scenes video for the lookbook here - this really shows what MiH is about....

Love,

Laura

P.S if you want THE most flattering jean - try the Marrakesh from MiH Jeans. Super slim on the thigh with a fantastic flared hem we PROMISE you they will elongate your legs and flatter your thighs!!!

'Karl' Has Landed!!

I would hedge a bet that there have been a few sleepless nights last night, as those interested in the fashion event of the new year excitedly await yet another British retail coop.
The hotly anticipated Karl Lagerfeld collaboration with Net-a-Porter launches today to eager fashion fans.
Following in the footsteps of Christopher Kane for Topshop and Versace for H&M, in my opinion Net-a-Porter have trumped all its competition by bagging a man whose talent can only really be described as iconic. Luxury fashion is becoming more accessible and immediate, it allows everyone to take part in a form of escapism that great fashion allows.
The eponymously titled collection is comprised of 100 pieces, ranging from day to night wear and starting a a tempting £52. The visionary himself stated: "I just want not too expensive clothes that people may like and perhaps want to wear. That was my concept for a long time."

Somehow, I think he will achieve his goal! Now- let the fashion frenzy begin......

New Delivery!

Image courtesy of Dries van Noten
I would like to share with you the exciting delivery which we have just received through the doors in the shape of Dries Van Noten.
Once again the designer has brought us an exceptional selection of eye catching pieces. This collection, inspired by the images of English photographer James Reeves, captures the essence of the approaching spring/summer 12 perfectly. By incorporating both elegant twilight scenes alongside an array of exotic prints and colours throughout the collection, it will no doubt get you in the mood for a foreign getaway.
Here is my favourite piece, elegant but fun, I would definitely enjoy showing this bold print off. Get it in store now!

Pale and Interesting...

In the last week there have been two women that have really made an impact on me: Tilda Swinton and Zooey Deschanel.
Now you may think what do they possibly have in common? One is a serious, edgy, British actress, while the other is a kooky, all American girl with a great talent for comedy (sooo loving New Girl!). But look again and you will see it: they are both have the most amazing fair skin. Not even a hint of a tan!, milky skinned and proud! As a women of the paler persuasion myself, I have been waiting a long time for women like this to come forward and show it's ok not to bronze up at every opportunity.
In short: you don't have to be tan-tastic to look fantastic! Here's to more of it.

The 2012 Golden Globes...best and worst dressed.

As award season gets underway, the Golden Globes is the first chance for Hollywood's elite to set the red carpet trend. Here’s our pick of the best and worst of the 2012 Golden Globes.

Rachel Evan Wood:

A feathered delight wearing Gucci, Wood looked absolutely picture perfect in this glamorous green gown.

English Rose:

Kate Beckinsale looked stunning in a strapless Roberto Cavalli cream gown.

A pop of colour:

Angelina Jolie injects a flash of colour on the red-carpet. This Atelier Vars gown is simply perfect.

And for the worst dressed

Kelly Osbourne:
Zac Posen's fishtail disaster does nothing for the curvier figure. and the hair...?

Erin Wasson:

This Model has hit all the wrong notes. The dress is well… horrific – better suited to Halloween than the Golden Globes.

Lady Victoria Henry:

Again, wearing next to nothing this dress leaves little to the imagination.

Swooning over - Jean Dujardin

‘Who?’ I hear you ask. Well, if you’re not familiar of French actors, Jean Dujardin is a name that’s meaningless.
But keep an eye out for him - This suave character is set to hit the big time with the greatly anticipated film, ‘The Artist.’ Awarded best actor at Cannes this year, not to mention possible Oscar and Bafta nominations, it’s only a matter of time before Dujardin becomes the male Marion Cotillard!

With his French good looks, immaculate sense of style and oh-so smooth charm, this actor conjures up a European Don Draper in my mind Suave-tastic... A cinema trip to see ‘The Artist,’ is the order of the day today!
Keep you informed.

We Have Spring Covered

You just need to look at the cover of this months Vogue to know what colours should be in your wardrobe this Spring. It is all about beautiful pastel colours with emphasis on pinks and blues. We have this trend covered. This week we received a new delivery from Diane von Furstenberg which is all about these colours. I have completely fallen in love with this bright blue dress. Although it is the perfect colour for this season it is also a timeless piece that you could wear again and again.

Happy Birthday Jane - 21 again

Yesterday our Saturday girl Megan was 21 and today it's the turn of Jane.
Yes, I mean Jane as in Jane Davidson that was - our founder and other Saturday girl.
Now Jane is a bit older than 21 but we couldn't possibly reveal her real age....
So here is a photo of Jane when she was 21 - what a stunner.

Happy Birthday Mum!

We hope you have a lovely day megan....you don't look a day over 20.

Dress like the most beautiful version of yourself...

Erdem’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection is a feast of sophisticated femininity
– Weightless flowing fabrics coupled with delicate lace and pastel floral prints makes for the most exquisite of lady-like garments.
Images courtesy of Erdem
Vintage wallpaper; classic Wedgewood china and romantic novels all heavily influence this collection and I defy anyone not to find at least one piece they admire.

Victorias' Girly Side

We would normally think of Victoria Beckham in her uber tailored dresses and sky high heels, so getting the first glimpses of her sister line; Victoria by Victoria Beckham has shown that once again, Mrs B really can turn her fashion eye to anything.
Super girly, wearable and fun are all adjectives I would use to describe this collection. With its mix of lollipop bright colours and whimsical prints, there really is a sense of fun about the whole collection.
Altough it is unlikely we are ever going to catch Victoria in flat shoes, it is refreshing to see that she is bringing a more relaxed and affordable range to our wardrobes.

Victora by Victoria Beckham will be available at Jane Davidson from the end of January.

Screen Sirens and Rock Rebels, Proud Gallery Chelsea.

Found myself in London this week, so HAD to go see the Terry O’Neill exhibition on the Kings Road.

I’ve always been an admirer of his iconic shots of emerging British talent, candidly snapped around London in the 60s and 70s. Although there were some very familiar images, like the legendary one of Audrey Hepburn with the dove on her shoulder, and the first shots of a 16 year old Lesley Hornby, soon to be known as Twiggy, there were also some previously unprinted photographs.

Images courtesy of Terry O'Neill

Some amazing early shots of Jagger, Richards and McCartney. Clapton lost in the moment of the music.

But my favourite was the un-posed and intimate moment between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. And I had forgotten how stunningly beautiful Shrimpton, Bardot and Bowie were.

Which brings me nicely to wishing Mr. Bowie a very Happy 65th Birthday tomorrow!

A tribute to photojournalist, Eve Arnolds...

A little tribute to a Lady who not only captured some of the most iconic people both on and off the silver screen but managed to shoot a tremendous array of subjects.

We thought it only fitting to dedicate our blog to an inspirational photographer who has left a fabulous legacy behind.

I-On Edinburgh

We love I-On Magazine and a new issue has just arrived today – with a fantastic shoot by Hamish Campbell.

With his take on ladylike glamour and classic chic he’s featured some of our favourite pieces from the pre collections including the MiH tails shirt and the stunning Erdem tweed coat! He’s also chosen some great handbags from our neighbours along the road, Covet.

Images courtesy of IOn

If you haven’t read I-on, pick it up in-store or read online –it’s got some great suggestions which even those of us who have lived in Edinburgh for years never would have known about!

A wee New Year message from Diane von Furstenberg...

We didn’t think it was possible to adore Diane von Furstenberg any more than we already do

I pray for a peaceful, healthy year....and wish you all a happy, healthy, successful year 2012 !
