I love a chic gadget...

I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to a new gadget or two so when I stumbled upon a nifty device that combines function with pretty chic form, I was loving it.

A new-season bag from Richard Nicoll is more than a modern classic - It also doubles as a phone charger.

The elegant white leather tote contains a discrete pocket that holds a battery-powered back-up power source. Ideal for when that pesky mobile losses all power towards the end of a busy day (we’ve all been there!)

WHat's more, a 'charm' hangs on the outside of the bag and flashes if a call comes in – goodbye embarrassing loud ring-tone, hello silent-mode.

As of yet, no price tag has been fixed to this little number but considering Nicoll’s traditional bags retail around £245, I’m guessing the cost will be considerably steeper.

All I have to do now is begin saving the pennies!

We have colour popped our shop

Our manager Nikki has been busy re- merchandising out Thistle Street store this morning and man it's bright!

I have fallen for these small Harper satchels from Diane von Furstenberg (£225) perfect for the essentials of life - phone, keys, cards and a lippy. Available in mango, peppermint and turquoise- they are too cute

What a tease...

Nobody can possibly know more about lingerie, and looking sexy, than Dita Von Teese.

So who better to call on to design a range of seductive underwear?

Tease has already worked with Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier and Wonderbra, but Target Australia gave the American beauty her first chance to design a solo range - and she has called it Von Follies.

If you’re a fan of vintage pin-up style, this collection will be right up your street.

FS2012 featuring Jane Davidson

Last night was not exactly your average Friday night....

We were delighted to be featured in the FS2012 fashion show at Mansfield Traquair.

In conjunction with the Muir Maxwell Trust, the event combined fashion and fundraising for a great cause close to our hearts.
Jane Davidson kicked off the show with 24 beautiful looks from the Spring/Summer collection.

Although we don't have any runway shots yet Laura took some quick snaps backstage. Keep an eye out for some front of house shots or keep updated on our Facebook page!

Christopher Kane for Atelier Swarovski

Today we received a great delivery of stunning Bolster bracelets from ATELIER SWAROVSKI.
The collection, designed by the fabulous Scottish-born designer, Christopher Kane, translates influences from the Pharonic middle-east into a traditionally Western composition. Kane creates grand pieces by setting crystals into gunmetal filigrees encasing the charmed scarab beetle. The pieces come alive with a simple and elegant colour scheme of jet and Black Diamond and Golden Shadow.

Available in store now and online soon!

Fabulous Fabulous Fashion

Fresh from my London trip I am still thinking about the beautifully ornate and other-worldly Roksanda Illincic show. Housed in numerous exquisite drawing rooms connected by one catwalk the show was a fast flash of bejewelled and fur flung beauties.

There was a decidedly Russian influence, which was mirrored in other designers this week, but in my opinion none as evocative as this. Deep burgundy and charcoal dresses were decorated in luxurious fur stoles and collars, whilst she sent out bright turquoise dresses with houndstooth sequins as a sharp contrast. Volume was also key in this collection and appeared in numerous guises including overcoats, sleeves and skirts. The embroidery was heavy and the drama was convincing but she still managed to supply the signature Roksanda evening gown show stoppers. Most noticeably the turquoise and navy silk gowns which thrilled in there movement on the runway. To top off each look was finished with bright canary yellow heels.

And as soon as it had started it was over; beautiful, enchanting, hard and very very fabulous!

Surprise box...

This is the first month I have subscribed to the relatively new online beauty craze that is Glossy Box. Having just discovered this little delight last month amongst praising bloggers, I decided it was worth the small monthly investment. For £12.95 (inc. postage) each month you receive a beautifully wrapped box of goodies, all of which are a surprise!

After sign up, you fill out a beauty profile where you detail your skin type and general preferences in order for the company to filter the box to your more specific tastes. You are sent 5 individual (sometimes full sized but mainly travel sized) products. Past items have even included brands such as Nars, Opi etc. I find this a great way to try products I would never think to purchase outwith my usual beauty regime.

The site allows for you to review products if you wish and offers direct links to purchase the full size items. Glossy Box has certainly been a hit with my friends and I. It adds a little bit of excitement once a month for the delivery of a surprise parcel. I definitely cannot wait until March's box arrives!

Have a look on the website www.glossybox.co.uk for more information. It really is worth the subscription. Especially since you can cancel whenever you feel necessary!

Enjoy!

J Brand have triumphed again!

Originally created in the 19th Century for French and British Military wear it has since migrated into every day wear - and this season J Brand have revitalised the Chino trouser to make it a fantastic fashion staple.

J Brand have created the Avery Chino which has a great slimline panel of fabric down the seam-line which slims the leg and narrows the trouser making it a more flattering skinny. We love it styled with a heel and a little breton t-shirt like the Petit Bateau in blue and white. Meanwhile, Fiona likes them worn with a loafer and a classic white shirt to make the whole look more masculine.

We've got them in two fantastic colour-ways Moccasin and Tigers Eye (in plain english beige and a salmon pink/orange) and we promise you they will become your wardrobe staple for this Summer.

If you would like something a little smarter then we've got two great styles, one from Petit Bateau and one from Vince. These are great for that smart/casual workwear wardrobe.

Look out for them online soon!!

Love,

Laura

The HD-Brow

On a recent trip to visit my Mother, I noticed her looking at me inquisitively - Head tilted, eyes squinted... then she came out with it...''Do you have a Scouse Brow?’’

With those 6 little words, I was devastated (well...not devastated, just a bit miffed if not slightly curious) Do I have a Scouse-Brow? I’ve been shaping and pencilling my brows the same way for years.

As it goes, this trend for bold brows has hit LFW. Back in September, it was dubbed the rise of the beauty faux pas (Think T.O.W.I.E and you classic footballer’s wife)but it seems as though the look has quite a bit of staying power, not to mention style power.

Just remember – You can overdo it, ladies!

A weighty issue..

With Adele being the face of this months US Vogue, it is clear to see she has outstanding beauty to compliment her showstopping voice. It would be extremely difficult to fault her look on this cover. The whole shoot has encompassed her elegance and curves in the perfect way, showing her off as not only a singer, but a style icon too.
This brings me to question Karl Lagerfeld's authority to deem her "too fat". A statement I find completely unnecessary and absurd (especially concerning his previous weight battle). Adele has a shape. She represents what the majority of women look like and are happy to look like. With curves in the right places, she proves that to be in a fashion led magazine, you do not have to conform to the size 6 models that are strewn across campaigns.
She rightly said, she is a singer, not a fashion model. She has got to where she is with her incredible voice and can enjoy life without being worried about the food she eats affecting her career. The way life should be! It's time to eat cake.

In Bloom

We are going to have to move on from our winter woollies at some point.
Yes, I know that it's still freezing outside, but spring is knocking at our door, and if proof were needed, here it is: Flowers are in everywhere! Fashion is helping us give the winter blues the elbow by bringing beautiful florals to our wardrobes. My pick of the best Erdem so if you are are thinking of giving prints a try this season, then pretty floral are a blooming lovely way to go!

Is BB our new saviour?

Image courtesy of Garnier and No7
There has been lots of buzz lately surrounding the new 'it' skincare tonic to promise more radiant, blemish free, 18 year old ( we wish!) stress free skin.

As one of Asia's biggest beauty sensations, B.B. cream—short for "blemish balm" or "beauty balm"—is truly an all-in-one skincare wonder.

Their lightweight, multitasking formulas provide SPF sunscreen protection and work to moisturize, conceal, and treat skin in just one simple step. The silky, tinted lotions effortlessly blend with your natural tone, minimize the need for concealer and foundation, camouflage lines and imperfections, and serve as a skin-perfecting primer. With just one swipe, skin is left looking smooth, glowing, and natural. Surely too good to be true?

Now, I am a sucker for anything that promises maximum results for, lets face it, minimum effort...aren't we all? Therefore, we have decided to put these claims to the test; I have recently started using the Garnier version, whilst Laura has been swayed by the No7 marketing. Now don't worry we won't scare you with the before and after mug shots- but we will let you know in a couple of weeks whether or not this latest trend is quite possibly the next best thing in skincare. Early indications are showing positive...

Happy Valentine's day! What're your romantic plans for tonight?

Have you left it a little late?! Well we're here to help with some last minute suggestions for what to get and where to go.

The most romantic thing : I Love You Toast. We're easily pleased. But if you're out of bread - or fancy spending a bit more on your loved one, we, at Jane Davidson, suggest the following:

A voucher for Bon Vivant's Companion with dinner at Bon Vivant. Located on Thistle Street, we can highly recommend for the creme de la creme of tipples.

Gleneagles Golfing Passport - unlimited golf for 12 months - great for him and you might get a quiet weekend once in a while if he's away!

Gifts for Her

Cake Slice Club - a yearly subscription to receive a slice of different and unique cake every month - a cute idea, and bound to brighten up her day!

These amazing Marc Jacobs earings!!!

Best Dressed... 2012 Baftas

I Had a fabulous Sunday evening watching the stars arriving on the Red Carpet for the 2012 Baftas.

Loved Penelope Cruz in her strapless claret-coloured gown and Jessica Chastain looked stunning in Valentino.

The Boys all looked terrific especially Gary Oldman, George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Mary Katrantzou

Designer/high street collaborations are coming at us thick and fast. Now it's the turn of my favourite designer, Mary Katrantzou. She is doing a collection for Topshop which is in store on the 17th of February.
I am very excited about having the chance to get my hands on one of her wildly printed dresses or trousers. However, I can't help but wonder, are all these collaborations cheapening our favourite designers? If Chanel ever does a collection for Primark, that's when we'll know that we are losing our favourite designers to the the high street!

We are in love. Yes . . . . again!

I know, I know, it seems to happen a lot at Jane Davidson, but our fashion loyalty is a bit fickle.
But this time we are truly smitten. And just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Lily and Lionel have just sent us the most heavenly scarves in dreamy lengths of gossamer-soft wool, cashmere and silk, depicting romantic panoramas of our favourite destinations.

London. New York. Venice.
So even if you’re stuck in the office on Tuesday 14th February, at least you can dream of being wafted away to one of these cities of wonderment.

Jane Davidson :: Clothes of Distinction

When it comes to all things print and illustration... I’m pretty much a self-confessed geek!
So you can imagine my reaction when I stumbled upon some vintage Jane Davidson Advertising today. Dated from the early 70’s these great little ad’s brought a big grin to my face.

One framed in a citch deco-inspired frame and the other depicting a classic 70’s fashion illustration.

Pout Power...!

CANDY pink, tangerine orange and poppy red - spring's new lipsticks are as bright and fresh as can be.

In lightweight, sheer formulations with glossy finishes, the new shades welcome the new season in vibrant style - whilst many also include vitamins and emollients to keep lips plump and moisturised.

YSL's sheer bubblegum pink is the epitome of the season's girlish prettiness, whilst Burberry's Devon Sunset No.28 is a natural shade ideal for channelling spring's natural minimalism.

And, with Valentine's Day just around the corner, their arrival couldn't be better timed.

Slimming heels...

Apparently next year we will be graced with these interesting heeled shoes. They claim to help you lose up to a stone (or dress size) in just one month! This being explained by the slightly bizarre curved heel which puts you off balance allowing for your muscles to work extra hard and burn more calories. They have even been given the name the Antelope shoe in regards to the curved heel.

As much as dropping a dress size in a month by just wearing heeled shoes sounds like a great idea, I think I will avoid this unusual statement shoe and stick to my usual straight heels! However, perhaps they will really work and we will all be racing out to get them.

Perfection!

Well ladies, it certainly seems to be the week for exciting deliveries at Thistle Street!!!

Erdem has just arrived and has brought yet another piece of Spring into the boutique. Cram packed with fresh floral prints, this collection is in stark contrast to its darker A/W 11 predecessor. A firm favourite of ours, and the designer himself, is the beautiful 'Isis' dress which we have in store now. More body-con than the other pieces, this dress is all about the decolletage and fresh summer skin.

The main inspiration behind this collection is the French book 'Bonjour Tristesse' (Hello Sadness) which follows central character Cecile whilst she holidays with her father and his mistress on the French Riviera. Erdem wanted a collection which would be 'optimistic, bright and youthful', and was taken by the idea of the young girl wearing the older woman's clothing to the beach. The result is a fresh take on vintage florals and feminine shapes.

So, whilst the temperatures drop outside and we all get a little chilly let yourself get lost in Erdem's latest masterpiece which invokes long, hazy summer days in the French Riviera.

Love,

Nikki
