Metro mention for Jane Davidson!

First Harper's Bazaar, then Vogue, now Metro newspaper... We're absolutely thrilled to see that the great British media are as in love with our store as us!

Today's Style Counsel section of Metro newspaper features Jane Davidson as one of, what they hail, the six best British Boutiques - and you can imagine our delight. What can we say ... clearly, those stylish people at Metro have excellent taste! We are all hugely proud of our little gem and it's a huge honour for us to gain recognition at a national level. ( Not meaning to sound like we're accepting an Oscar or anything!)

So...if you're new to the boutique, we'd love for you to come in and meet us, and have a good browse at some of the fabulous pieces we have in store... if you're an acquainted Jane Davidson girl, we've just had some gorgeoues new DVF and Talbot Runhof delivered so please pop in and have a coffee, and if you feel so inclined, a little look at what's new in!

Denim, DVF, and dreamy dresses...

... these are a few of our favourite things!

If like so many of us your holiday plans have been scuppered by a certain volcano and you’re now contemplating a little spot of retail therapy to dust (yes, I’m afraid, pun intended!) your holiday blues away, then we kind girls here at Jane Davidson thought we would share with you a few of our favourite things this week...

First up is the all time favourite, denim. Denim jeans, denim shirts, denim jackets, denim skirts... black denim, white denim, blue, pink, turquoise... You name it, we love it! And with so many pieces, there’s a whole host of ways to wear it for a very Summer 2010 look! Our MIH blue denim shirt is a particular favourite and looks as great teamed with a pair of MIH or Met chinos for a very relaxed, classic holiday look as it does with Joes black leggings for an edgier, high fashion feel. Equally on trend this season is what Harper’s Bazaar this month is calling ‘seventies chic’- think bell bottoms, tan accessories and, dare I say it, clogs. And not ones to let you down with the trends, our MIH Marrakesh (pictured above on Jessica Alba) and J Brand Love story and Heartbreaker jeans are perfect for working this look - match with one of the many pretty Tucker blouses or frill t-shirts and we’ll find the Farrah Fawcett in you, you didn’t know existed!

Next up, and in some ways not a million miles away from denim, is khaki! Our selection of chinos as well as linen trousers in stone and biscuit colours are a very chic summer alternative to jeans, and look brilliant with oversized shirts, tank t-shirts and boyfriend cardigans for a stylish, off-duty look. But, khaki has proven its more than just combats this season, and we have to say, we’re loving its new glamourous look. The DVF Blynn jacket and Newport trousers in khaki green linen for instance, matched with embellished tops and lots of gold jewellery are perfect for channelling this new age of khaki!

Lastly, and I have to say is a personal favourite (hint: pre-empt my gushing!) is the return of the maxi dress... or perhaps as Harpers have more eloquently called it, ‘long length luxe’! And being surrounded by the many long gowns in store just now, you can imagine I feel like a child in a sweet shop! On one end of the spectrum we have the show stopping silk Jenny Packham, draped, beaded and all things Grecian gowns, as well as our new Jovani floor length, backless and sequined, and oh-so-Beyonce Knowles number (pictured here at the Oscars no less!)... at the other end, we have Halston Heritage purple and green maxis which, tied with a printed scarf around the waist, scream effortless, seventies cool! I warned you I’d gush!

So if jet setting is not to be this week, take comfort in the knowledge that a few tempting treats can be found in store. All in all, the moral of the story - even clouds of volcanic ash can have silver lining!

Tucker’s In Style!

Another Jane Davidson favourite featured in another of May’s fashion glossies!

Not meaning to sound like we’re boasting now, but we girls here at Jane Davidson are a little bit excited again this week to find another one of our much-loved brands featured in another of the fashion bibles: May’s In Style sees the oh-so-summery Tucker featured as a ‘name to know’ in their ‘Style Candy’ guide! And we have to say, how right they are!

So why do we love Tucker? … How long have you got? Set up by New York designer Gaby Basora, the ideology behind the brand was to fill a void in her own wardrobe with a blouse that was ‘as versatile as the life she leads’. Several years and a collection or two later, Tucker’s offerings now include a range of blouses, dresses and jackets (to name only a few!), with something to offer even the most pattern and colour shy of us! But, if like me the drop of the words bright floral and floaty normally has you running for cover from your neutral, natural and structured wardrobe, I promise, pop in and visit us – Tucker will have something to silence the print cynic in you!

In store just now we have a collection that ranges from hot pink, animal-print silk dresses to shirred-neck, blue and red checked cotton blouses to grey and gold checked kimono style jackets…even the striking black and floral blouse pictured above... how more versatile do you get?! Everything is perfectly wearable but equally statement- making! The gorgeous blouses are as easy to wear tucked into a shift skirt for a splash of colour at the office as they are over your skinnies and killer heals for a night out, whilst the dresses are as wearable on the streets of Edinburgh, (granted umbrella probably in hand!) as they are on the Caribbean shores, Pina Colada in hand!

In Style say we’ve to ‘embrace a print-powered Summer’ with Tucker… here at Jane Davidson, we couldn’t agree more!

Vogue dubs Jane Davidson favourites Erdem and Clements Ribeiro the very best of British!

We are delighted to see that those fabulous people at Vogue are as enchanted with British designers Erdem and Clements Ribeiro as us!

This month’s Vogue sees new boy on the block Erdem Moralioglu saluted as winner of The British Fashion Council/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund – an initiative set up to support Britain’s design talent – and that talented twosome Clements Ribeiro shortlisted … proving what we’ve been saying all this time, that these pick of the Brits are most definitely ones to watch!

So who is Erdem Moralioglu you might wonder? Well believe me, once you’ve heard his list of credentials, I guarantee you too will be blown away by this self-titled ‘aesthete’. A firm favourite of the red-carpet go-ers, Keira Knightley most recently dazzled in Erdem at the Laurence Olivier Awards in London, wearing – I can’t add quickly enough! – a stunning full length floral gown which will be part of the Jane Davidson collection! And its not just Hollywood that is feeling the Erdem effect, this multi-talent has managed to unite rival politician’s wives Sarah Brown and Samantha Cameron who have both been spotted sporting Erdem, as well as being a designer of choice for first lady Michelle Obama. And if that’s not enough, it is alleged that fashion editors wept when he showed his AW10 collection…could this perhaps be the man to melt Anna Wintour’s heart?!

Probably the most high profile British designer of the day… with a collection that is high fashion yet wearable and ageless… you can imagine we are counting down the days until we have our beautiful collection in store!

And lets not forget finalists Clements Ribeiro! Firm favourites of the girls at Jane Davidson, we are ecstatic to see this husband and wife designer double act getting the recognition they deserve from British Vogue. And in what better way than show casing the stunning boyfriend cardigan twin-set we’re getting in store this Autumn!

Founded at what Vogue calls the ‘height of Cool Britannia’, this dynamic duo are still proving that when it comes to fashion, Britannia really can rule them all!

One of our favourites - Diane von Furstenberg Milton dress in HELLO

Definately high on the 'wanted' list, our favourite DVF dress was featured in HELLO magazine this week.

We can't believe she's done it again, the Queen of the 'womanly' cut dresses has created this fantastic piece which ticks two of the the right trend boxes this season. Drape? Check. Nude? Check. The MILTON dress - or the goddess dress as we've named it - is a fantstic mix of womanly draping and on-trend nude which looks great here on Kelly Sugarman. We also love how she's adapted it for this season's event calendar by adding a nude pashmina to the mix.

Howeverm, it looks just as amazingly goddess-like (if that's a phrase!) seen on the catwalk with a blazer like the fab BLYNN blazer we've received from Diane. There are so many ways to wear this dress and it's great for all events you have planned this summer - wear with tan gladiators, with black or off-grey biker jacket to pull-off laid back chic or sky high heels for that sexy greek goddess look.

ALSO, if you've eaten too many chocolate bunnies for Easter (I know the JD girls have!) the draping is very flattering for covering those not-quite-ready-for-bikini physiques!

Thing's we're also loving this week are the new MET jeans in turquoise - great with basic white accessories and the new Bruuns Bazaar delivery we received in last week - amazingly simple basics which will last for seasons!!! So pop in or if you need that all essential revive for Summer make a personal shopping appointment by phone on 0131-225-3280.
