Things that would cheer us up this wet Monday...

The girls at Jane Davidson are really fed up with the weather this Monday.

We have been thinking about what would cheer us up...

4. A cuddle from my granddaughter (Jane)
5. The smell of home baking (Fiona)
6. A Mulberry Taylor oversized satchel in black (Laura - dream on!)

8. My impending wedding (Nikki)
9. Man City to beat Man UTD tonight (Catherine)

It's been almost a year (to the day) since Kate Middleton became a damsel in some fantastic outfits and propelled her into the spotlight as the new Mrs Wales.

It was the best kept fashion secret and delightfully so as the worldwide WOW when Kate left the car 12 months ago was almost audible. She followed with an equally elegant strapless gown by the Cheshire-born designer.

Love her or hate her she is evolving the Royal style - we can't wait for the next 12 months.

Not Long Now...

Well, it has definitely been the quickest six months of my life! But it has finally come around and tomorrow it will be one week until I'll be walking down the aisle and leaving the single life behind!!!! Good bye Miss Duffy, hello Mrs Clark. Of course I am a bit of an emotional wreck at the moment; shifting rapidly between excited, anxious and stressed out all at the same time. One thing that I can guarantee will go to plan though is the outfit- and believe me I am EXCITED (to say the least)!!! Of course, i'm not going to break tradition and go into details, but if I say bespoke Erdem with a touch of Jenny Packham, i'm sure you'll see where i'm coming from! Jools Rules OK!

Remember the days when you used to get your weekly fashion fix from Top Of The Pops?

Every week was filled with a riot of new looks you just couldn't wait to get your hands on, from Madonna to Annie Lennox. So aside from MTV (if you can find it), and its over done pop videos, where else can you get both great music and fashion in inspiration?

Step forward Jools Holland. Last night's Later With was the most refreshing mix of artists and style I have seen in a very long time. I was transfixed by Jack White rocking it out in the most amazing cobalt blue, boot cut trousers, so much so I want to know where he got them!

My top find of the whole show has to be Canadian electro artist, Grimes. To me, her look is all that is good about being edgey but without going GaGa.

The Body Debate

The naked photograph of model Alessanda Ambrosio has divided the Jane Davidson girls today.

Whereas I think it's empowering Nikki thinks it's a bit 'done'. From Demi to Jessica Simpson it seems everyone has done it - with varying degrees of class.

Personally I think it's the ultimate sign of womanhood and Ambrosio agrees.

 'A nude photoshoot was good, because pregnancy makes me much more confident. I'm proud of my body to be generating a life...'

The 31 year old was posing (in a closed set we may add) for the upcoming campaign for Brazilian jewellery company Vivara stripping off with nothing but jewellery on for acclaimed photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

The pressure is also on as she's determined to get back to her pre baby body (of 34-25-34 just incase you're interested) for work in July (that's 2 months after giving birth....this maths just isn't adding up)

The discussion here is quite heated. I think it's extra pressure for expectant mothers but also a sign of empowerment.

Pyjamas should stay in the bedroom

As a fashion buyer my job is to review the up and coming trends and edit from them those which I think my customers will want to wear in Edinburgh

There is one obvious trend which I have chosen to ignore this season and it's Pyjama dressing. Yes obviously Alexa Chung can pull this one off - however I urge you to look at this photo of Rihanna in Emilio Pucci and approach with caution.
Yes I get that they feel comfy and silky - there are plus points but Ladies - this is not fashion!!!
Besides....what on earth does one wear on the feet?

A dip-dye too far?

I am a huge fan of the colour dip-dye trend which is around at the moment.

I have been sporting pink and purple tips for weeks now. However, I am starting to wonder if the trend has gone a bit too far?


On Monday, Made In Chelsea's Gabriella Ellis showed off her new rainbow do . . . we at Jane Davidson are not completely sold on this look.



Amber Heard has really taken it too far and has dip-dyed her dog's fur pink. Unfortunately for dogs everywhere, I don't see this trend slowing down anytime soon.

The true age of beauty...

Looking around the headquarters of the Models 1 agency in Covent Garden, there are giant posters showing the most famous girls on their books — Amber Le Bon, Bar Refaeli, Noemie Lenoir.

But there is one poster that shows a woman who is very different from the rest. A mane of silver hair, high cheekbones, bright, intelligent, lively eyes, and all 83 of her years etched upon her face.



Fronting the Oxfam’s Big Bra Hunt, Selfe has propelled herself back into the spotlight. Apparently, the average woman in the UK owns nine bras, three of which she never wears. And while we readily donate clothes to charity, most of us don’t realise that women in developing countries need our bras - and so the cause of the Big Bra Hunt started.



Looking back to photographs from the early 50's, Daphne's beauty is obvious but the Girls at Jane Davidson applaud her refusal for any cosmetic surgery and that even she suffers from the dreaded bingo wings!

Kisses On The Bottom

A friend sent me this the other day on Facebook, and I just have to share it with you.

It’s quite, quite beautiful.  Simply produced, and musically lovely.

Vogue covergirl Natalie Portman features alongside  Johnny Depp in the short music video produced by Sir Paul McCartney, for his album track My Valentine. The video was unveiled at the end of last week, during  a private soiree at Stella’s LA store.

After being a couple for 7 years, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have announced that they are engaged.
America is claiming that it will be the wedding of the century and their answer to Kate and Will's wedding.
In Jane Davidson we are unsure...undoubtedly Angelina will be a stunning bride but will their wedding really rival our Royal wedding? We don't think so.

The incredible shrinking Crystal Renn

The girls at Jane Davidson were all shocked to see the images of once 'Plus Size' Crystal Renn - now a skinny size 0...

Once the poster girl for 'normality' on the catwalk -the 25-year-old star showed off her even slimmer frame and her newly platinum blonde locks at the 9th Annual Spring Dinner Dance New Year's In April: A Fool's Fete at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.



It's sad that her ample boobs and curvy hips which were once her USP are now diminished - although she does look a healthy size 0 - she's not that poster girl we could once look up to.



We have to wonder whether the pressures of her industry have finally gotten to her or whether the plus size market just doesn't 'fit' couture?

Out of Africa

Bold prints are everywhere this season, and worn in the right way, they can transform any wallflower into a bird of Paradise.

My pick of the prints comes courtesy of DVF. Inspired by new African culture, they have taken florals and blow them up into amazing abstract effects. In shades of red, coral and pink offset with neutrals, the collection is sure to have you wanting to make a statement.

Meet Victoria Beckham 'The Average Woman'

Meet Mrs Beckham - The Average Woman...

VB has been a little bit of a chameleon this month from her glam 50's inspired UK Harpers Bazaar issue where she explained she is the 'average woman' to her Warrior Princess shoot in its Chinese counterpart.



For a lady who we're used to seeing in black body-con, bug sunglasses and oversized handbags we can't help but think it's from the sublime to the ridiculous...

Whatever the cause we're kind of loving it.

We giggled when we read about Vogue.com commissioning serious fashion players to design their own take on the Easter Bunny.

From Nicholas Kirkwood to Peter Pilotto, they rose to the challenge like the true artistic icons that they are, and came up with the sublime and the ridiculous.

Petit April Showers

Alas, the sun has taken it's hat off, and who knows for how long. Now we have been brave enough to wear our bright spring clothes, it would be a shame to take a step back. So what's the answer to staying dry and fashion forward? For the Jane Davidson girls, it will be this Petit Bateau rain coat. I love the brilliant flash of yellow, and it is sure to brighten even the dullest of days. In fact; Bring on the rain!
