Have you got the MiH jean gene?

Question: What do a French town, Indian sailors and a potato farmer from South Carolina have in common?

Answer: Jean genius.

Yes, decades before Coco or Chloé had picked up a pencil, the forever-fashion-forward French were fabricating a new material which would go on to become a staple for wardrobes worldwide. Named for its home town (de Nîmes = from Nîmes), denim quickly became the material people lived and died in; from the sailors of Dhunga (hence dungarees) to the Deep South farmers, ‘le jean’ was the flash-in-the-pan seasonal trend that just...never went away.

But while we admittedly owe those original overall origins, we here at Jane Davidson are of the opinion that there are jeans...and then there are MiH jeans. Denim of deities, MiH jeans are the most versatile thing you will buy this Summer, and if you saw this week’s ‘Femail’ feature in the Daily Mail we’re sure you’ll agree.

Team a clean and classy MiH Paris cropped jean in ‘raw’ with a trench and a stripy sailor tee for the ultimate in French elegance. As Yves Saint Laurent himself described jeans, “they have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity...” We say, a girl could do worse. Or if channeling Chanel is more your cup of cocoa, why not go for the classic collar-less jacket and court shoes with your crops? It won’t just be Paris sizzling this Summer! But if fresh and funky is more your style, be bold and jazz-up your jeans with a bright tunic and think big on accessories. A clutch, a collar and crops make for a celestial combination this season.

So, with MiH's help, you don’t have to die to go to heaven; just get the jeans!

Carrie and the girls are bringing sexy back…

… And we Jane Davidson girls are completely carried away!

Ok, so I’ve got to confess something from the outset- I am totally and utterly obsessed with all things Sex and the City. The comforting fact however, I am most definitely not alone. So if like me, dear dedicated follower of Carrie Bradshaw and crew, you have been eagerly awaiting your second fix of fashion, fun and flirting since the credits rolled at the end of the first film, wait no longer… May 28th is a mere five days away! Yup, that’s right, five little days!

And like any true devotee, you can imagine how beside myself I am that designer of choice for the lovely Ms Bradshaw is one of our favourite new brands, the super cool Halston Heritage. When you think what this girl did for a certain Mr Manolo Blahnik, I would bet my treasured designer heels that Halston Heritage is about to experience the Bradshaw effect! How lucky are we then to have our pick of a Carrie-worthy collection? Answer- very. And what’s more, it’s not just a collection for cosmo-sipping, Manhattan-mingling fashionista types (although ideal for that if you are so lucky!) but also one perfect for parties, weddings, holidays… or for just being sexier in this city!

So what’ve we got to dress the Bradshaw way? Some gorgeous, one shouldered, swing cocktail dresses in electric blue and black for starters – fabulous options for a fresh, fun take on eveningwear. A gorgeous bright print, in a one-shoulder cocktail dress as well as a shirt dress - it just screams Summer. A stunning cross shoulder black gown, fantastic black mini dresses… and lest we forget, the ‘Carrie gown’itself - just like her now iconic white mini, this is the extremely cool maxi version in green and electric blue!

Halston Heritage, heels and cocktails at the ready … let's welcome back Carrie and the girls in true SATC style!

Love,

Talking Talbot Runhof...

... the exquisite new label that has set all our hearts fluttering!

Talbot Runhof. I would take note – we here at Jane Davidson reckon it’s most definitely a label to watch. But who is it and what do they do, I hear you ask? Well, question not – since we’re such obliging types we have everything totally Talbot and remarkably Runhof to settle your queries!

Who? Founded in 1992, the label – based in Munich, Germany - is the product of the combined forces of American Johnny Talbot and German Adrian Runhof. Interestingly, neither have formal training as such in fashion design and their roads to dizzy fashion heights have been along the ones less travelled: Talbot originally trained in the U.S. as an electrical engineer - a career that saw him work for the Pentagon and then latterly in Europe – whilst Runhof’s career began at business school and then saw him branch into fashion.
It was not until the two met in the early nineties that they decided to band together. And from little acorns ... The company has grown to now comprise 30 highly qualified and specialised tailors who hand make each and every piece in the Talbot Runhof collection; and not just that, pieces worn - most recently - by the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie and Ginnifer Goodwin.

What? A collection of luxurious evening and occasion wear, their pieces have been described as glamorous ball gowns for ladies of wit, charm and elegance – and let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to fit that bill?! Having designed ballet costumes for the Dortmund Opera House last summer, this season’s collection is said to have been inspired by all things ballet and fairytale – silks and satins gathered, draped and rouched into dresses Hans Christian Anderson would be proud of! Our particular collection ranges from a gorgeous black, floor length, fish tailed, rouched silk taffeta number to knee length, rouched, sleeveless dresses in slate and stone, expected in store early June.

Why? Well, as one commentator explained: ‘it’s the subtle elegance, the astonishing detail that is often only noticeable after a second glance, its overall beauty and timeless elegance as well as its understated glamour.’ We quite agree! Their lady-like line up strikes just the right balance between luxurious glamour and ready-to-wear chic that, whatever your particular occasion, you couldn't not feel fabulous!

Grazia ‘join the MiH party’!

Grazia magazine champions MiH jeans… but we JD girls are already one step ahead!

This week’s Grazia sees one of the Jane Davidson jean favourites - MiH - celebrated by one the national glossies, and not wanting to sound all ‘we-told-you-so’ (well, OK, maybe a little bit!) but we’ve been singing their praises all season! And what’s not to love… with styles and cuts to suit all shapes and ages, you’re bound to find a denim match made in heaven! (See what we did there?!)

So what’ve we got we can tempt you with? Well, where to begin… Let’s start perhaps with one of our firm favourites, the Marrakesh – available in Ink and Kara washes, this mid rise, retro flare is most definitely a denim staple worth investing in. They look brilliant dressed up or down – with a t-shirt and flats for a classic relaxed day time look, or a pair of heels and pretty blouse for a bit more glam. But if flares are not your thing, never fear, perhaps the universal appeal of the London will woo you over. Available in white, this very subtle, mid rise bootcut is a perfect summer jean. Or the Roadtrip? A classic mid rise, straight leg, blue jean… speaks for itself really- a jean you’ll wear and wear.

But if you’re all stocked up on jeans, for now at least, keep your eyes peeled on our website- we’re expecting more! Coming very soon is the Paris in Raw wash. A slightly cropped, mid rise, darker blue denim, Kristen from MiH was modelling these when she popped in to visit us last week…and we loved! We’re all now getting in line to grab a pair when these get delivered any day now.

Grazia invite you to join the MiH party… R.S.V.P A.S.A.P is all we can say!

Love,
