DVF has landed ladies....

Yesterday was without a doubt one of my favourite days this year!

I am pleased, honoured and downright excited to tell all you DVF-ette's out there that our GORGEOUS (can you tell I like it?) Diane von Furstenberg Cruise collection has arrived.

With everything from neatly knitted Breton sweaters with Diane's mantra 'Love to Live' emblazed across the front, to the Sexy little Helena dress dripping in black sparkles, including (and not forgetting my favourite) the sumptuous woven slouch tote bag with it's amazing metallic detailing and the laser cut scarves - perfect to brighten up any black outfit!

I tell you, yesterday that delivery was a TREAT to unpack! Oh, and i forgot the gorgeous Spy Trench coat. So, so, SO perfect for spring summer with pale grey trousers, a white crisp shirt and patent pumps! Anyway, I wont get carried away....(again)

So, pop in, try on and fall in love all over again with Diane.

We're delighted aswell to be featured in the Louis Vuitton Guide to Shopping with a little snippet about our favourite brands and all the services we try and offer anyone who loves clothes as much as we do and walks in our front door.

Also - our beautiful scarf bar has had a standing ovation (well kind of) for one of it's starlets (see what i did there) - the Queene and Belle gorgeous fine cashmere scarf with Star detail was noted in this month's edition of fashion bible, Vogue.

Our Winter Warmer to you...

Are you sitting comfortably? We've got so much to catch up on!

November has been busy already with some of the most interesting deliveries this Autumn/Winter.

November started when these adorable M Missoni Clutches arrived. In gold and purple colour-ways with long chunky shoulder chains - think a Chanel/M Missoni mash up with a little Marc Jacobs edge! And what's even better - we're getting shoes to match!

Also, from M Missoni are little gems like the gorgeous leather button cardigans (I've ‘Facebooked’ and ‘Tweeted’ about these so much I should start getting royalties!), pleated cocktail dresses and this season's essential - the GLITTERY BOLERO! Wear with your favourite party dress this Christmas season, but also wear with jeans and a simple tee when Spring/Summer arrives.

A new brand for us, Gillian Julius, has become one of our surprise Christmas must-haves! These beautiful silver plated, handmade bracelets make such an impact all the JD girls want one (or two, or in my case six!) Starting at £199 for the simple classic style up to the beautiful pearl and jewelled styles at £255. They're an investment, but worth it!

Christmas must be on its way! La Perla - the Rolls Royce of Lingerie has arrived in store making the shop look like a French boudoir! With three beautiful styles you can mix and match the laciest shorts with the most luxurious wraps - pure bliss! Whether it is bought as a little treat for yourself (don't mean to get Cheryl Cole on you but 'you're worth it') or for a loved one, it is the ultimate in luxury!

We have another favourite (we're being very fickle this month!) is Talbot Runhof. Our new brand, this is their second season for us, have just delivered our pre-Christmas(present) which has the most AMAZING 'Holy' and 'Pooky' dresses. The perfect little all-round Christmas dresses in the heaviest and most luxurious duchess satin arrive to us divinely wrapped in layers of soft tissue and satin'y' ribbon. It really IS like receiving an early Christmas present!

Finally on the delivery front, the amazing Agnes jean from J Brand. If you want to look like Rihanna (minus the hit-or-miss red hair and MC Hammer accessories) these are the perfect denims!

Inside the store, it's not just the stock that's changing. This Christmas we've decided to do something a little different in store - pop in to find out and enjoy a glass of wine whilst you meander through our Winter Grotto!

Last, but certainly not least, we've been getting a lot of lovin' from the press (expect us always to blow our own trumpet!) the fantastic Eva Arrighi has featured us in no less than four (!) photo shoots over the last few weeks. She always makes the stock look great - thanks Eva! Also, Lynne McCrossan, mentioned our fantastic delivery of DVF accessories (which is turning up next week – are we counting the days?? – YES!) in the Evening News on the 8th November.

Champagne, Canapes and Clothes .... oh my!

There’s always a buzz around the shop whenever our Fashion Shows are on – from the clink of champagne glasses to the arrival of the show programme.

We get as excited to see the models in our latest deliveries as our guests do. So for anyone who was unfortunately unable to attend, we’ve decided to give a little backstage preview of our September show!

The lovely Anna in one of my favourite new brands, Laark. We've got this beautiful oversized dress in peppercorn, teamed with the Oakwood soft leather biker jacket.

Nieve in the fab little Clements Ribeiro dress (and amazing shoes!)

Lauren and Nieve in these great Erdem dresses - one of our great new brands for this season.

Anna in our show stopping Jenny Packham -there's always at least one!

Until the next one (and I promise I'll take more photos!)

Our week in photos

Since fashion is such a visual 'hobby' (well to me it is!) we thought we'd bring you a collection of our favourite images from the shop this week.

It's been a busy old week with deliveries left, right and centre, from Jenny Packham, Diane von Furstenberg, Erdem and new brand Laark London.

Founded in early 2008 Laark is the vision of established knitwear designer Jenny Lam.
Built on what she considers the three fundamentals of aspirational knitwear; the design ethic, luxurious yarns and impeccably made garments, Laark provides a welcome addition to any woman’s wardrobe and to our glorious collection of the best knitwear around. Including these great little beanies! Starting around £85.

Also this week our Clements Ribeiro knitwear arrived including the fantastic snowflake oversized Cashmere dress - we love the little embelishments as seen here... We also had the fab embelished kimono sweater and the embelished cardigans which are great pieces to wear with jeans or integrate into your Winter work wardrobe.

If Thistle Street seemed extra busy this week it was due to the Ladies of Edinburgh realising Winter may be on its way and it is that time of year to replenish their stock of Moncler jackets. Trust us - if you are thinking about coming in to buy a Moncler do it NOW! Currently we have almost a full size range - but that won't last long. These perfect Winter coats fly out the door - my favourite this season is the cropped blue with the waist detail - watch out for it online. Here's a teaser...

Finally, the cherry on top of the cake was this fantastic Jenny Packham which certainly brightened up our Friday. Full length glamour with a couple of sequins (!) to make any entrance sparkle and shine!

And we LOVE it (OTT maybe) but we can't live without a little bit of sparkle at JD!

I Spy....oversized (everything!)

Us girls like everything oversized! This time its the turn of the coat.

Us girls like everything oversized - whether it's the handbag, the knitwear or that slice of chocolate cake we shouldn't have had with our lunch. This time it's the turn of the coat. The oversized coat. Just think this favourable motto of mine: the bigger the coat, the slimmer the leg. Which, according to the nickname 'thunder thighs', is a motto to live and die by for me! We've got a few tips and tricks to make this trend work for you.

If you're tall - congratulations - you can wear this trend anyway, choose a cropped cape or a mid calf camel coat, just remember to keep the bottom half skinny and it will look great. Might I suggest the AMAZING Utzon leather leggings or the Dom and Ruby one's we've got just instore now - excellent to make any leg look slim and trim.

However if, like me, you are slightly shorter (5ft 2.5" exactly) and curvy then think of these two tips. Don't go any longer than mid-thigh, that way extending the legs and still giving the same Brigitte Bardot vibe making you look inches taller but not drowning you. Also keep details to a minimum - don't confuse things with a lot of pattern or embellishments (sorry, the oversized sequinned cape with feathers and a one-man-band attached is out of the equation) Keep it simple!

We love the styling seen in the Sunday Herald (by Ms Arrighi!!!) where we saw the fantastic Bibby coat from Diane von Furstenberg featured. The accessories are simple and the impact is anything but. We think this look works great with skinny leggings (as mentioned before: try J Brand, Dom&Ruby or Halston Heritage) oversized longer-length knitwear with a simple tee underneath and shoe-boots (apologies this shoe-trend isn't going anywhere either!) For night try with a Victorian style blouse (like the fab DVF one we've got) but you must keep the leggings slim (hope you've got the hint yet!)

Add on an oversized envelope clutch (still trying to find my perfect one - any suggestions email laura@janedavidson.co.uk thanks!) to bag loads of style and ta-da daytime chic for these winter months!

The countdown begins to.....Noir!

We are counting down the days until our grand entrance at the Noir Night – 5 Days!

An invention by our favourite Dutch damsel model Anna Freemantle and her husband Jonathan, a South African painter, Noir! is described as a ‘Nocturnal fusion of Music, Fashion and Art’ – perfect – just what we love! This Thursday, Noir! will be celebrating the festival with its #7 Festival Edition at Hawke and Hunter’s Green Room featuring, amongst other things, the wonderful Jane Davidson!

We are so excited to be involved as it includes styling by Ian Tod – so you can expect quirky concepts and a fabulous show, but something a little bit different from the classic Jane Davidson (don’t worry we’re not changing!) Expect live music, installations and a host of high fashion and high jinx, as they push boundaries and buttons that blend and challenge the realms of creativity and club night, while having a perversely outrageous time in the process.

Included will be fantastic headpieces by Edinburgh born sculptor-turned-milliner Evelyn Morrison, which have been created especially for this Noir! night. The event will feature a host of designers and artists, including recent ECA graduates Alex Gibbs, Callum Monteith and Mathew Swan, who show talent by the bucket.

Along with being packed full of talented people (ourselves included) the location, the infamous Hawke and Hunter Green Room, is one of the most stylish and exclusive clubs in Edinburgh which this Thursday will be full of the most interesting people around.

It’s a party atmosphere which celebrates the most innovative ‘things’ happening in Scotland, it’s a concept and it’s an occasion – so dress up for the party and come along....

Tickets are £12 (includes entry to afterparty at Below Stairs)
Doors @ 7.30pm

Ways to wear....the J Brand Houlihan

Right, so as you can tell we are pretty excited about the arrival of the Houlihan from J Brand and here we take inspiration on how to wear THE hottest styles of the summer (even if it's raining)

Charlize Theron takes on my favourite look teaming her Vintage Olive Houlihan (that word is so difficult - especially after one too many cocktails!) with our favourites a check shirt. We are loving the MiH ones in store in two colourways and teaming them with a pair of heels gives that sexy off-duty day look. How effortless...if only it was that easy.

MiH Shirts start from £145 and look great during this wet summer we're having but also during the winter with skinny leggings and boots.

The low-rise skinny cargo looks so good glammed up as seen on Rihanna with her great new cropped do - in postbox red of course - with a cute tee and some fierce heels - giving it a really good mix of ladylike chic and rock glam - a big trend for A/W 2010.

Also they look great with a racer back tee and a charcoal grey oversized blazer mixing masculine tailoring and laid-back chic. or with flip-flops and a boyfriend cardigan as seen on Jessica Alba here.We could go on....

Just a quick one today as more than likely at the rate they're flying out the door every pair will be sold by the time I finish this. At £245 these are the best jeans we have and with it being such a denim year they really are an investment.

Pop in and try them on - trust us - you'll need a pair of these in your wardrobe!
