From Issa With Love

Following on from my post, A Fashion Front From the East, I wanted to give a little update of a beautiful new piece from Issa A/W 2012, which as I had mentioned is inspired by travels on the Trans Siberian railway.

This knitted dress has gone straight to the top of my 'To Die For' list!

The embellished high collar and cuffs are stunning and so right for the new season. I would work it with heels, boots, over skinny jeans, the possibilities are endless.

In short, I want this dress in my life more than I covet a Faberge Egg!

Nicole Miller at New York Fashion Week

It's New York fashion week - the start of a very exciting month for the fashion industry.
We will be buying our collections for Spring 2013 in the coming weeks. Can you imagine thinking of Spring already?!

One of our favourite designers, Nicole Miller, showed her collection at New York Fashion week yesterday. Here are a couple of photos from her show to give you a little taster of what's to come.

Her collection featured futuristic prints which she describes as 'space clouds', contrasted with leather and bead work. Altogether it looks like another great collection from Niole Miller and now we can't wait to see what our other favorite designers are doing for the new season.

Dallas Days Are Here Again!

OK, OK, so I'm admitting to being a 70's girl at heart. My teenage icons were Bowie, Bolan, Stewart and Queen.

So you can guess how thrilled I was to see the return of Dallas this week. There they were again ....

J.R., Swellen and good ole Bobby. Admittedly, I was a bit sceptical at first, but the moment that familiar theme tune burst into action, I was a goner. Lump in the throat, tears in the eyes as I was wafted back to my time in London.

The hype and secrecy that surrounded the iconic "Who shot JR" storyline was fantastic. Everyone was speculating and gossiping. When the tapes (yes, tapes) were finally flown into Heathrow for the big reveal, the security was tighter than that of Royalty.

Which eventually brings me to my actual point. Don't you still wish that you didn't know the ending till it happened? What IS the point of telling us all days in advance, and spoiling the surprise? What happened to mystery, intrigue, imagination and suspense? No wonder the TV ratings war ain't what it used to be........ Rant over.

New Chairman for BFC....

I was thrilled last night when it was revealed that Natalie Massenet will succeed Harold Tillman as the new Chairman of the British Fashion Council.

Natalie is a bit of a personal role model of mine... a mother of two girls who founded the uber successful Net-A-Porter. She started Net-A-Porter from home and persuaded backers that women would buy designer fashion online. More recently she launched the fabulous Mr Porter for men.
She will be an amazing spokesperson and industry ambassador and a super inspiring role model for girls everywhere. Congratulations Natalie!

Fashion Icon or Trampire???

I was really excited when I saw the new front cover of Vogue's October issue with the girl of the moment (not really for all of the right reasons) Kristen Stewart.

The British cover is a first for the classical beauty and I for one am looking forward to seeing what she has to say. However, not all in the Jane Davidson House are so convinced...there was a decided rolling of the eyeballs from Fiona who thinks she is ridiculously overrated and a bit miserable!

I, on the other hand, am a genuine fan of hers. I think she  has come in for her fair share of negative press purely because she does not adhere to the glittery Hollywood starlet prototype. And yes, I am well aware that she has had a slight indiscretion of late...but show me one person who has never made a bad decision.

All of the gossip aside Vogue have chosen someone who can clearly polarise an audience but who always seems to be true to her fashion self...that in itself is commendable! Opinions ????

A Fashion Front From the East...

I never get tired of talking to people about my travels of last summer, because I didn't just do any old trip, I did the mother of all trips: The Trans Siberian Railway. This mammoth journey began in Saint Petersburg, went on to Moscow and then up into the far reaches of Siberia, Mongolia and on into China. Epic is the best way to describe it.

So, imagine my delight when I found out that many of this season’s biggest labels have taken their design inspiration from the sights I experienced along the way.

Issa, which is new to us for A/W 2012 have gone all out with Russian opulence, using bold contrasting colours. I am in love with this print dress which depicts Moscow inspired skylines.

Dries van Noten has been heavily inspired by all things chinoiserie, giving us full on dragon
prints in sumptuous silk.

Autumn/Winter is all about more is more. Jewell colours and brocades are going to be everywhere, so whether you want to turn like a Russian heiress or be as eye-catching as a Chinese dragon, there has never been a better time to look to the east for a fashion fix.

And the bride wore....not very much?

Everybody wants to be the centre of attention on their wedding day.

However, we can't help thinking that perhaps Lady Mary Charteris has gone a little too far to make sure that she was in the spotlight.

At her wedding to Robbie Furze over the weekend she wore a creation by Pam Hogg, who has also styled outfits for Lady Gaga. Although she has a great figure we think that this dress is inappropriate to get married in, especially when the ceremony took place in a church.

Last month it was rumoured that Lady Gaga could soon be tying the knot. If Lady Mary wore this creation, we can't even imagine what Queen Gaga will wear!
